It was in the year 1990 when a company 
in the UK started to bring the first LNBF`s 
to the market, simply switching the polarization by using different voltage (14/18 Volt) to switch from one to the other polarity without any seperate polarizer. The first LNBF`s were born and consequently the first satellite receivers appeared on the markets.

This technical change was taken from the multiswitch manufacturers in the same way and it not took a long time until the first multiswitches with the same technology were available.    At this very first beginning the market was easy. The first multiswitches on the market had 2 inputs and 4 outputs. Later an additional input for VHF/UHS signals was added. The selection for the user was simple. There were not many differences.

However the time has changed. Appliances were created with more than 4 outputs, as 
a cascadable system, with or without integrated amplifiers and power supplies. 
The selection became more difficult. 
What should installers keep on stock ?
Mostly the one which is required is not on stock but all the others (Murphy)

 

Development continued - suddently the 
2 satellite-receiption (analog and digital) became a huge market. The multiswitch was no longer a small accessory, it became an independant product range. Switches with 
2, 3, 4, 5 or 9 inputs and 4, 6, 8 or more outputs are today`s typical range.

Purchasing becomes more and more difficult and whoever can say today whether the current product is not out-of-date after one year ?
 

Where will it end if more orbital positions will be interesting in future ?

How far should the product-variety still escalate for satellite IF-distribution ?
